Friendly Steps Beginner Guide
Learn Friendly Steps movement recovery, route reading and co-op communication before tackling rope-linked physics challenges.
Answer first
Quick Answer
Move one leg deliberately, restore balance before the next input, and agree on a caller before a 1–4 player group crosses narrow terrain.

Quick Answer
Friendly Steps controls each leg independently. Start slowly: place one leg, let the body settle, then move the other. If balance collapses, stop forcing forward progress and use the game's crawl/recovery options.
First Session
- Practice single steps on open ground.
- Learn what a stable stance looks like before increasing pace.
- Approach hills, stairs and bridges with shorter inputs.
- In co-op, choose one caller and announce stops.
- Treat a fall as information about spacing or timing, not a cue to mash inputs.
Official features include hidden side paths, quests, speedrun mode, customization and multiple co-op modes, but fundamentals come first. Read Controls and How to Walk before rope physics. For group setup, use the multiplayer guide.

Requirements
- Learn the active movement inputs
- Choose solo or a supported co-op mode
Steps

Stabilize
Pause after a poor step and recover the body's center before adding another leg input.
- 2
Advance deliberately
Control each leg as a separate action rather than treating movement as ordinary forward input.
- 3
Coordinate
In co-op, call the next move before rope-linked players commit.
Common Mistakes
- Holding movement continuously.
- Correcting both legs at once.
- Letting every co-op player lead simultaneously.
