Valheim 1.0 Mod Compatibility
Scope: valheim mods 1.0
Check a Valheim mod against the released 1.0 build, protect mod-dependent saves, and distinguish PC mod updates from console and Workshop support.
Answer first
Quick Answer
Valheim 1.0 is live, but Iron Gate does not provide official mod support or guarantee that earlier mods work with it. Confirm compatibility with each mod's author and its dependencies. The 1.0 FAQ also rules out official console mod support and Steam Workshop integration.

What changed for a modded installation
The September 9 release includes a Unity engine upgrade, a new chunk-based world save system, and changes to inventories and building menus. A mod that worked before the release needs its own compatibility check; a successful game update does not verify the mod.
Iron Gate's FAQ says that mod authors may need time to update. It does not provide an approved list of working mods. Check the author's release notes for the specific 1.0 build and any required loader or dependency versions.
Check compatibility without risking the only save
The following is a troubleshooting workflow, not an official compatibility guarantee:
- Record the installed game version and the mod versions currently in the profile.
- Keep a separate backup of important saves and the profile's configuration.
- Read the author's 1.0 release notes and check each required dependency.
- Test the updated profile in a disposable world before opening a valued mod-dependent save.
- If a problem appears, record the error and test a separate vanilla profile with a disposable world to identify whether the issue also occurs without mods.
Do not remove content mods from the only copy of a world just to see whether it loads. A clean test world is sufficient for separating a general launch problem from a profile-specific one.
Consoles and Steam Workshop
The official 1.0 FAQ says there is no official mod support on consoles and no Steam Workshop integration. PC mod installation instructions therefore do not establish a supported PlayStation, Switch, or Xbox procedure.
Crossplay is a separate feature. The fact that the base game supports multiple platforms does not prove that a particular mod works for every player in a mixed-platform group.
Where to continue
- Old saves and new worlds covers the generation and save-system decisions.
- Achievement eligibility explains permanent and temporary cheat states.
- Crossplay support covers the base game's platform scope.
- Return to the Valheim hub.
