WoW 12.1 Curse of Ula'tek Campaign Guide

Start and progress through the WoW 12.1 Curse of Ula'tek campaign, meet the account requirement, reach the Coiled Isle, and track the major activity unlocks.

Answer first

Quick Answer

To start Curse of Ula'tek on an account that has not already begun it, complete the main Midnight campaign on one character, then follow the 12.1 campaign prompt in Silvermoon. Continue the campaign into the Coiled Isle and finish each displayed chapter in order; use the separate skip guide only for eligible alts.

How to Start Curse of Ula'tek

Log into an eligible Midnight character and check the campaign section of the quest log. The 12.1 story begins from Silvermoon and continues the Midnight campaign toward the Coiled Isle.

Follow the live campaign prompt instead of a pre-release coordinate list. Blizzard has adjusted eligibility through hotfixes, so the quest log and current NPC dialogue are more reliable than an old PTR route.

Campaign Requirements

Blizzard clarified that the Curse of Ula'tek campaign is intended to require account completion of the main Midnight campaign before it can be started. If your account has not begun the 12.1 campaign, complete the main Midnight story on one character first.

That is an account requirement, not a statement that every alt must replay the entire Midnight campaign. Characters that had already started Curse of Ula'tek before Blizzard enforced the requirement were allowed to continue, according to the official hotfix note.

Before troubleshooting the starter, verify:

  • One character on the account has completed the main Midnight campaign.
  • The character is on the current 12.1 content version.
  • The campaign log does not already contain an active Curse of Ula'tek chapter.
  • The character is not in a conflicting campaign phase.

Curse of Ula'tek Campaign Progression

Use the chapter headings shown in the campaign log as your source of truth. The story first establishes the Amani conflict, then carries the player toward the Coiled Isle and its campaign-driven systems.

For efficient progression:

  1. Complete the prerequisite Midnight campaign once for the account.
  2. Accept and finish the opening Curse of Ula'tek chapter shown in Silvermoon.
  3. Continue the follow-up campaign until the route to the Coiled Isle opens.
  4. Finish the island chapters in order instead of stopping after arrival.
  5. Complete required dungeon or story follow-ups when the campaign explicitly presents them.
  6. Check the campaign log after each chapter for the next unlock objective.

This guide intentionally does not invent a complete quest-by-quest list. Quest names, phasing, and availability can be adjusted, while the campaign UI preserves the correct live order for your character.

Major Unlocks

The campaign is the progression spine for Patch 12.1. Blizzard's official update notes connect it to the Coiled Isle, the Vaults of Atal'Utek public activities, Curse Surges, the Altar of Fangs dungeon, new Delves, and Season 2 content.

Those features do not all unlock at the same moment. Reaching the island opens the zone path, while World Quests and other repeatable systems can require later campaign steps. Treat each system's unlock message as a separate checkpoint.

Coiled Isle

The Coiled Isle is the new outdoor zone introduced with Curse of Ula'tek. The campaign opens the intended path and establishes the character's phase; attempting to bypass that progression can leave quest NPCs or objectives unavailable.

Use How to Get to the Coiled Isle for the short unlock route, alt access, and fixes when the island is not appearing correctly.

Can You Skip the Campaign on Alts?

Eligible alts can reduce repetition, but the verified official claim is specific: Blizzard fixed Soridormi so she could offer the Legacy of the Amani campaign chapter skip. Do not interpret that as confirmation that every 12.1 chapter is skipped.

See the complete Curse of Ula'tek Campaign Skip guide before choosing an option on an alt.

World Quests

Coiled Isle World Quests require progress beyond simply entering the zone. Current verified guidance places the unlock after the required campaign chapter and the Altar of Fangs follow-up.

Follow How to Unlock World Quests on the Coiled Isle for the exact checkpoints and troubleshooting sequence.

Campaign Troubleshooting

If the next chapter does not appear, confirm the account-level Midnight completion, check for an active campaign quest, leave any incompatible phase, and log back in after recent account progress. On alts, check Soridormi before replaying the opening chapter.

Do not abandon a working campaign chain just because a later zone icon is missing. Many 12.1 systems appear only when the relevant chapter records completion.

Quick Start

Complete the account-level Midnight campaign requirement, accept the current 12.1 campaign prompt, and follow each campaign chapter shown in the quest log.
